Because it flies at dusk and into the night, commonly regarded as the realm of spirits, the Ghost Moth (Pepe tuna or Pūriri moth) is known in Māori culture as a spiritual messenger, or a ghost of an ancestor returning to visit his or her descendants.
This series of prints is inspired by the beautiful and ethereal Pepe-tuna.
All prints are hand drawn, cut into linoleum and printed using water based ink onto acid free paper. The background of this print is made using a recycled Tetra Pak. The box is inked and pressed onto paper using an etching press, the Lino is then printed onto the paper. Each print is then hand embellished with gold leaf.
The nature of the process makes each print unique and therefore may have slight variations in colour, ink evenness and other minor details. This adds to the unique quality of the print.
